Validating PAInitiationRequest Data
2 min
surescripts has implemented four different ways of validating the data within the painitiationrequest from the provider vendor each are enabled at the portal level prescriber details data validation when the prescriber name and prescriber specialty are not matched by pbms/health plans, electronic workflows could be disrupted to decrease these errors, surescripts checks the incoming painitiationrequest for these two fields and updates the outgoing message to match the information for the spi from the surescripts directory, eliminating delays in the prior authorization process this will decrease the number of closed painitiationresponses due to mismatched prescriber name and specialty details and will create efficiencies in the electronic workflow a new field has been added and labeled "update prescriber details" in the portal configuration when this feature is utilized in the processing of a pa, the panote of the painitiationresponse will be appended with the verbiage "prescriber details have been updated to match prescriber directory" ndc data validation surescripts validates ndcs contained in painititiationrequests to ensure invalid and/or obsolete values are not used an obsolete ndc will be replaced with a valid ndc before being sent on to the pbm/payer when this action is taken, a panote will be appended to the painititiationresponse indicating "an obsolete ndc was found and replaced" or "an obsolete ndc was found but there was not a valid ndc to replace it with" days supply surescripts reviews incoming painitiationrequests to determine if the dayssupply field is missing and, when possible, populates the value rather than delay processing if the dayssupply field is empty and the medication is for tablets or capsules; the sig text, quantity value, and drug description details are captured for parsing by the surescripts sig parser the sig parser attempts to calculate the dayssupply value based on the elements provided if a dayssupply value can be determined, it will be mapped to the painititiationrequest before being sent on to the pbm/payer if this service is used in the processing of the message, it will be indicated in the log codes in workbench
