This section defines the elements used to request and receive prescription notifications via the Medication History for Populations FHIR® API. It describes the data element requirement designations used throughout this guide, the required message structure for search requests, and the FHIR resources returned in the response.

**Data Elements Requirement Designation:**

| mandatory    | The element must be used per the specification (e.g., XML schema validation).<br />**Note:** The term mandatory applies to mandatory and required fields in the different standards. |
| conditional  | The element must be used per the conditions specified.<br />**Note:** The term conditional applies to conditional and situational fields in the different standards.                 |
| optional     | Some fields do not have specific conditions. Data should be sent if available.                                                                                                       |
