What's Changing
Rerouting now happens automatically when a provider changes vendors.
Previously, moving a provider to a new vendor meant submitting a Change of Vendor request and waiting for Surescripts staff to assign the provider’s record to the new vendor’s account. Now, as long as the provider is registered correctly, Surescripts detects the switch on its own and starts rerouting their renewal and change requests to the new vendor without any manual request required.
Old way: Manual Change of Vendor Request
- You submitted Change of Vendor requests for providers moving to your account.
- Legacy vendors were able to deny the switch.
Now: Automated Change of Vendor (COV)
- Register providers instead of requesting ownership of an existing SPI.
- Legacy vendor approval is not required.
- Surescripts detects when a provider switches vendors at the same practice location and reroutes RxRenewalRequest and RxChangeRequest messages.
Note: If multiple providers are part of the same Change of Vendor event, rerouting starts for all of them at once, as soon as the first provider in the group sends a NewRx message.

Both the paths below lead to the same automated rerouting but differ in how providers get registered beforehand.
